    4. Symptoms of PTSD include: flashbacks, chronic anxiety, night terrors, and black outs. The pressure to live a normal life coupled with symptoms of PTSD can be sometimes too much for a young veteran to handle.

    1. Service dogs help humans by assisting with day to day activities such as turning on light switches. Also they provide a companion and a friend to their owner http://www.assistancedogsinternational.org/about-us/types-of-assistance-dogs/service-dog/

  8. Do you think that the government is doing enough to help veterans with PTSD? http://www.ptsd.va.gov

    1. I don't think the government is doing enough. In the book it says how private donors donate money to help ECAD program. I think the military and the government should donate some money to ECAD to help more PTSD people be able to get service dogs.

    2. No I do not think there doing enough because they have so much on their mind they don't think to focus on our veterans

    3. I feel like the government should do more to help veterans in need. They could open up more recovery facilities and rehab centers to get veterans the help that they need and deserve.

  9. What are some pros and cons of "puppies behind bars" versus the ECAD training facility?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Puppies behind bars allows the dogs to get a new style of training. The dogs learn how to bond with their trainer. Unfortunately, it is heartbreaking when the dogs get separated from their puppies behind bars trainer. It is also amazing to see how the dogs can have such a positive effect the prisioners' lives.

    2. One of the pros of "Puppies behind bars" is that not only do the dogs get a new type of training and new surroundings, the prisoners that get to work with the dogs also are impacted. Many of these prisoners obtain a new outlook on life and feel a sense of importance and self worth that they may not have had before, therefore allowing them to enter society once again with a better attitude and making better life choices.

  10. How do service dogs become service dogs? http://www.assistancedogsinternational.org

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Service dogs must go through extensive training starting at just a few days old. They must learn to always be vigilant and to never lose focus. Yes most dogs are able to play fetch and sit down, however these dogs must be able to tell the difference between a sock and a remote and retrieve each item on command. They learn to sense when their own is becoming upset, or experiencing anxiety and they must know how to calm their owners down so that they can live a productive and happy life.

  11. What triats must a service dog have?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Service dogs must be patient, gentle and friendly. However, they cannot be too active because they need to assist the person they are assigned to help. These dogs cannot be overly controlling or lack confidence - they need to be evenly mannered dogs. Typically they should be hypoallergenic dogs such as a labradoodle so as not to cause issues for the owner or others that the owner needs to interact with.
