  1. It is said when Jeanette is in the hospital that her dad thinks he should have taken her to get an alternative form of care. There exists the religion of christian science where they believe they can pray away illness, and it is perfectly legal to not seek care for their ill child as any law against it would be violating the freedom of religion. Others can wish that their child is treated by Native Americans' ancient rituals or by eastern medicine techniques. It is often debated by Americans what value these alternative practices hold. Should it be made illegal to have the option to choose this in any way? Keep in mind that children have died with parents trying to pray away their cancer, but also any lay possibly violates constitutional rights.~~~~~Tori Sinift. Stupid thing won't let me change it without creating a whole new account.

    2. Every year, many households around the world lose one adult, in the form of a mother or father, due to alcoholism. Every year, there are divorces and separations of families due to alcoholism. Every year, many babies suffer from the Fetal Alcoholic Syndrome (FAS), and are born with birth defects. Those are just a few of many ways that alcoholism affects an entire family.

  3. Very interesting idea: How do we keep children safe and healthy without violating citizens' constitutional rights to religious beliefs?

    1. to overcome her fears and not let that stand in her way of being successful

    2. he didn't want her to live with any fears. As a father he felt like he was obligated to help his daughter and that was how he did it. Rex wanted Jeannette to be whatever she wanted to in life and he thought that fear would hold her from that.

  7. Is it a coincidence that a lot of the places they live, burn down? Is this some sort of pattern?

    1. I think it relates to when Jeannette burnt herself. After that incident she learned to face her fears. Maybe this is a way of saying the family needs to stop running from everywhere they live.

  8. Why do you think Jeannette walls wrote this book ? Like what is she trying to show ?

    1. I think that Jeannette Walls wrote the book because she felt the need to tell people about her childhood so that people who are in her situation can see that despite what she lived through she is very successful and that they can be too.

    2. I think that Jeanette wrote Glass Castle as a means of inspiring others who have been through some kind of childhood trauma to overcome it.

  9. She is trying to show people that even if you do have a hard and bad chold hood you can come out of many things. Also that you can do many things to make your selve feel better about yourselve.

  12. why do Jeannette and her siblings keep forgiving their parents when they are bad parents?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that the children keep forgiving their parents because it's second nature to them. They don't know that they are bad parents, because they really don't know anything else. That's just how they've always been raised.

  13. How is Rex different from all the other family members? How does he resemble them?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Rex is more selfish, immature, and arrogant compared to the other family members. I believe the children resemble him in that they are adventurous and tough, but him and Rose Mary are opposite in many ways.

  14. Do you think Rex is mentally abusive to the family? Is this a result from the death of their child to make himself feel better?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I do think that Rex is mentally abusive to his family. This could be a result of the grief he feels from the lost child or possibly from his alcoholism.

  16. Why don't some people use their intelligence to its full potential when it could easily improve their lives?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Some people dont utilize their full potential due to lazyiness or simply lack of caring. Also, people sometime have little to no self confidence because of mental or emotional abuse.

  17. Do you think Jeannett's dad is actually running from bill collectors or could there be a possibility that he's actually mentally unstable/ insane and it's all in his head?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I believe that Jeanette's dad does have debt he cant pay, however he is probably exaggerating what will happen to the Wall's if the collectors ever catch up with them.

  18. Jeanette has been through numerous traumatic experiences that would scar most children for life, yet she goes on to lead a successfull life and is able to put her trauma behind her. What do you think causes her to be so resilient?

  19. During Jeannette's childhood she always atleast partially believed what her Parents told her. At what point in time did she realize that everything they were telling her wasn't the truth?

  20. Why do you think Jeannette Walls wrote the book about the bad times in her life and not the good times?

    ReplyDelete
  21. On page 34 near the end of the page where the police man kindly asks the family to leave and even goes as far as showing them where they can stay without getting in any trouble, why is Jeannette's father is still so mean/rude toward officers.

  22. In response to Daniel: because throughout her childhood i feel as if she had quite a few more bad times than good times. Also we cant fully assume from our perspective that these are all bad times to Jeanette, because how she might have felt about these events can be completely different than how we interpenetrate them

  23. In response to Andrea: i also think that it is defiantly a possibility that he could be on the run from tax collectors of some sort and is almost afraid to face them. it is also possible that he could be loosing it slightly because he keeps adding on to it such as saying he is running from the FBI.
